The Public Lighting Authority of Detroit (PLA) has completed installation of the new LED street lights across all residential blocks in ZIP codes 48205 on the city’s northeast side and 48219 and 48223 on the city’s northwest side.

The Michigan Finance Authority (MFA) Wednesday sold $185 million in bonds on behalf of the Public Lighting Authority (PLA) through its Local Government Loan Program to complete the funding necessary to relight the streets of Detroit.

The Public Lighting Authority of Detroit (PLA) expects its A- rating from Standard and Poor’s Rating Services(S&P) will allow it to sell in excess of $180 million in bonds, more than $20 million than anticipated, to fund the plan to restore reliable street lights to the city of Detroit.

The Public Lighting Authority of Detroit (PLA) Board decided Wednesday to exclusively use Light-Emitting Diode (LED) lamps as it rebuilds the city’s street lighting system and to accelerate the pace of installation with a goal of completing all neighborhoods within 18 months.
